A 500 calorie smoothie that is nourishing and sweet. It’s filling without being too heavy. A great grab-and-go breakfast or pre/post workout smoothie. High in Vitamin A and C. Great source of plant protein, healthy fats and carbohydrates in the correct ratios for weight gain.
I add in collagen powder as it can help stimulate the building of lean muscle mass and tissue when combined with regular weight and resistance training. Collagen is important to keep your muscles strong and functioning properly. Other benefits are its anti-aging effects on the skin helping to maintain healthy skin, hair and nails and even known to reduce wrinkles as well as joint pain.
Cherry Banana Smoothie
2 cups cold filtered water
1/2 avocado
1 cup spinach, packed
1/4 cup raw cashews
1 cup frozen cherries
1 banana
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
Optional – Add 1 scoop of collagen powder and/or 2 tsp of red beet powder
Note – I added red beet powder, without adding it the smoothie is more green than red because of the spinach and avocado. Adding beet root powder has many benefits thanks to its dense concentration of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids. If taken before or after a workout can help boost athletic performance by improving endurance and speed up recovery. Other potential benefits is regulating blood pressure and improving blood sugar levels. Fun Fact – One teaspoon can be equivalent to one beet!
